a guide to becoming bilingual in insults

So a while ago I read an article on here about punjabi/hindi words to add to your vocab. I think this is my version of that. So here's some chatpate marathi words to add to yours, with little explanation that does shit nothing.

Also, disclaimer: there's multiple words in this that I simply cannot explain purely because marathi is a sentimental language—the words come with emotional packages, instead of meanings. Anyway, here's your list (thank me later)

1. टवळ्या- meaning: useless. The word is chatpata and doesn't really have a concrete meaning, tavlya can be anyone. Also, emphasis on the ट sound.

2. मूडदाडछाप - मुडदा literally means dead. So this one means like dead or Marathi equivalent of saying "look alive".

3. गोट्या- literally means marbles. Someone who's got marbles for brains. Or someone younger you wanna call names.

4. ऊंद्रे- mouse.

That's it. Undre is the female version. For a guy you'd use- undrya (उंद्र्या). Use it when someone's being cheap with food. Or acting like a rat.

5. डुक्कर- donkey.

Use it endearingly, for someone who's being adorably boneheaded. Or just because who am I to tell 🤙🏻 (आवडत्या व्यक्तीला डुक्कर म्हणतात)

6. माकड-तोड्या- monkey faced.

Use it when someone's being audacious with a dumb face (I don't make the rules)

7. बावळट- dumb.

8. बिनडोक- literally means without brains, ie. Dumb.

9. ढ- dumb part 3.

Low effort maximum impact. Say it with your chest.

10. कोंबडीच्या- chicken man.

Similar to makadtondya.

11. "चड्डीत राहायचं."- this is a famous dialogue. Literally means stay in your underwear (lane). Basically telling people to fuck off. Classic insult (ily sai tamankar)

12. "अक्कल गहाण ठेवलीस का"- literally translates to "did you mortgage your intelligence", ie. calling someone dumb.

13. दिढ शहाण्या- literally translates to one and a half smart. Used when someone's being oversmart, or overdumb, your choice.

14. येडपट- dumb

15. निर्बुद्ध- on the more literary side, but this one also means dumb.

16. शेणखाऊ/ हगर्या- shit eater/ shitter. Needs no further explanation

17. उचापती- extra. Just anything extra. Like someone who's a doofus.

18. भोसकले- stabbed.

19. "ही फक्त खांद्या पर्यंत आहे, वर काही नाही"- literally translates to "she's only till her shoulders, theres nothing above" ie. Brainless/dumb

20. "सगळे माकड हे किंग काँग नसतात, पण किंग काँग हा माकडच असतो."- "all monkeys are not King Kong, but King Kong is a monkey at the end of the day" say it with your chest and it almost sounds philosophical but it means nothing.

21. सुतारफेणि: this is a sweet actually, but it can be used as an insult because I said so

22. शेंड्या- literally means someone with a runny nose.

23. माझ्या डोक्यावर उपकार - to be used when someone does a mundane task and expects appreciation.

24. थोबड फोडू का - may I punch you? (Rhetorically used)

25. म्हसनात जा - fuck off.

Congratulations. You've successfully expanded your Marathi vocabulary by learning eight different ways to call someone dumb and a handful of insults you'll absolutely misuse. Use responsibly. Or don't. I'm not your mother.

(Bonus) When flirting w a Marathi baddie just ask- "जेवलीस का” (or जेवलास का for guys) and trust me.
